Yardley PTA September 2024 Newsletter

Updated: Oct 1

Welcome back to new school year!

It’s great to be back for another exciting school year! As we all settle into new routines, the PTA is gearing up for another fantastic year ahead. We’ve got plenty of events, fundraising initiatives, and our general meeting on the horizon. In this newsletter, you’ll find important details about our upcoming meeting, ongoing projects, and how you can get involved!

Welcome back to School

CLASS REPRESENTATIVES

If you’re not already in your class WhatsApp group, now’s the time! Reach out to your class rep to get added or just email the PTA.

And make sure you follow us on social media Instagram and Facebook.

GENERAL MEETING – 17th September

Our General Meeting will be held on Tuesday,17th September from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the Children’s Centre. If you can’t attend in person, we’ll be sharing a Google Meet link so you can join virtually. We’ll review the PTA’s finances and discuss our priorities for the 2024-2025 school year.

As previously announced, Mike and Heidi are stepping down from the committee, as their child has moved on to secondary school. Then, we are looking for new volunteers to support with event planning, social media, website management, and affiliate programs. If you’d like to get involved, please email committee@yardleypta.co.uk.

DISCO PARTY – 17th October

After consulting with class reps and parents of children with special needs, we’ve decided to cancel the silent disco, as they believed headphones wouldn’t suit the little ones. Instead, we’ll be hosting a non-scary Halloween party where everyone—parents and children can dress up as they wish. Please note: wear masks, scary costumes and scary makeup aren’t allowed.

We’ll be running two sessions after school hours:

  • Session 1 (4:00 - 4:45 PM): Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 (Children must be accompanied by an adult)

  • Session 2 (5:00 - 6:00 PM): Year 3 and above

(Parents are welcome, but children can also enjoy the party on their own)

Expect a fantastic evening with DJ, games, dance competition, neon make up stand, photo booth, and special decoration! If the weather allows, we’ll have a food court and drinks outside, giving parents a chance to relax and catch up. Tickets are £5 per child (adults attend for free), and they’ll be available for purchase online only. For all the details, please click here.

Join the Forum and let us know your child favourite playlist! Link.

We can’t pull this off without your help! If you’d like to volunteer, please reach out to Dilan at committee@yardleypta.co.uk. We’re looking for 10-15 volunteers to help with the event and the PTA stand, plus a talented balloon decorator to assist with the decoration.

PTA PROJECTS & FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES

The PTA is working hard to improve the school’s facilities. It’s a big task, but together, we know we can achieve our goals! If you’re not familiar with our projects, please visit our website for all the details.

TESCO STRONG STARTS - LAST MONTH TO VOTE!

Make sure to visit one of the 3 Tesco store below and vote for Yardley Primary School. We have until 30/09 to get as many votes as possible. The project with the highest number of votes across the region will receive £1,500, the second-placed project £1,000, and the third-placed project £500. The grant will fund the a sensory area for the Early Years Playground. We believe we might be able to secure the second place. But, with you help we can jump to the first place.

Vote for Yardley Primary School in the following stores:

Waltham Abbey (EN9 1JH)

Hoddesdon Express (EN11 8TQ)

Hoddesdon Brfd St Exp (EN11 8JB)

FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES:

We have been reaching out to local businesses to donate to our projects, and we’re thrilled to have already received a generous donation from Wenzel’s The Baker and a personal contribution from a parent and former student towards the library project. If you think your company could donate any amount, please email us. If you would like to set up a monthly contribution to the PTA projects, please email us at committee@yardley.co.uk. We suggest £10 per month, but you can donate as much as you can.

We still need to raise a considerable amount to bring these projects to life, we’ll be launching a crowdfunding campaign soon. With your support, we can build the sensory area for the Early Years playground and create a dreamy library for our children.

ASDA CASHPOT

Asda also launched new campaign - Cashpot for School. It is another initiative that will not cost a penny to parents, but brings a passive income to us. Between 2nd September and 30th November 2024, every time customers shop with Asda using their Rewards app, they can choose a primary school to receive a percentage of their spend. And that’s not all — every time a customer chooses your primary school, Asda will donate £1 to your school’s Cashpot, plus a further £50 when your first customer shops.

It is super easy!

  1. Download Asda Reward App.

  2. Select Yardley Primary School (Postcode E47PH).

  3. Shop in-store or online at Asda.com

And don’t forget, we’re also part of EasyFundraising! It’s a free way to raise funds every time

you shop online. Just download the app and select Yardley Parent Teacher Association as your cause.

Plus, did you know every shop will get you a stamp on your Stamp card? 5 stamps fills your card and earns you an entry into the monthly prize draw to WIN up to £1,000 for Yardley Parent and Teacher Association.

We’re aiming to reach 300 supporters. Please join now, if you haven't yet. Link below.

Community Update: DADRA AGM - 18/09.

On 18th September, DRADA (Drysdale and District Association) will be holding their Annual General Meeting (AGM) at St Francis Hall (Scout Hall at the top of Hawkwood Crescent) starting at 7:30 PM.

Key topics of local interest will be discussed, including traffic, road safety, highways maintenance, and important planning issues such as the Local Plan 2 that will impact our neighbourhood greatly.

Come along and be part of the conversation—let’s work together to make our community a better place for everyone

Thanks for all your continued support. Let’s make this year the best one yet!

Warm regards,
